COLLABORATION: GIO PONTI

We are very excited to announce this collaboration! Our first venture in to furnishings… and one that is inspiring us to do some more in the future. We want to say a big thank you to Betty Wood and Kucha Swara of Port Magazine for inviting Marwood and curating such a fantastic project. The event at the store on Wednesday night was wonderful to be a part of, not to mention what an honour to see our fabrics furnishing such iconic Gio Ponti chairs. For those of you who came to listen to our talk, thanks for coming… we hope you found it interesting. Here are some official words about the project… “To celebrate London Design Week 2014, Molteni&C invited luxury lifestyle magazine Port to curate an exhibition of Gio Ponti’s iconic D.270.2 armchairs in an exclusive range of textiles by four British designers, including Marwood. Demonstrating the shared commitment to quality, craftsmanship and beauty, Custhom, Esme Winter, FfionGriffith, and Marwood have each upholstered Ponti’s revered design in bespoke patterns commissioned exclusively for the exhibition, titled ‘Gio Ponti: A Cover Story’.”

For our fabric design, we took one of our best selling ties, the Harlequin, and chose a section of the ink drawn design to create two new jacquards of the same pattern. The extent of options offered in creating a weave is vast, so we chose a clean, compact cloth that would be hard wearing but show the sharpness of the design. On one chair the design is set vertically and the other horizontally, working as a complimentary duo or each as a confident stand-alone piece. Check them out in the window of the Molteni store and let us know what you think. For further enquiries, contact us at info@marwoodlondon.co.uk.
